All LCSAR applicants must pass a thorough background check through the Sheriff’s Department before advancing to an interview. Once the background check is complete and an interview panel has been conducted, an applicant may be offered a position as a probationary ground team member. That is when the hard work starts!
Within 90-days of acceptance, members must complete the following:
- FEMA IS 5.a: An Introduction to Hazardous Materials
- FEMA IS 100.c: An Introduction to the Incident Command System
- FEMA IS 200.c: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
- FEMA IS 317.a: Introduction to Community Emergency Response Team
- FEMA IS 700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- FEMA IS 800.d: National Response Framework, An Introduction
Within 1-year of acceptance, members then must complete the following:
- CPR and Basic First Aid
- Wilderness First Aid
- Bloodborne Pathogens (OSHA Approved Course)
- Crime Scene Awareness
- Land Navigation
- HAZMAT Awareness (OSHA Approved Course)
- NASAR SARTECH II Certification (to be maintained current)
- HAM Radio Technician Level License (or higher)
- K9 First Aid
- Equine First Aid
